Scientific Workflow with Immersive Interfaces for Visualization

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - 2:00pm - 4:00pm

SC09 Portland, OR

Bill Sherman
Senior Technology Advisor, Advanced Visualization Laboratory
Pervasive Technology Institute Data to Insight Center

Bill ShermanThis workshop will examine the ways in which immersive interfaces can influence the process of scientific inquiry. The discussion will cover scientific visualization efforts - both with and without the aid of immersive displays. Both visualization researchers and domain scientists are encouraged to participate in this discussion. The goal of the workshop is to identify areas of study that can make use of immersive display systems in order to better serve the domain scientist. The presentations and discussions will be used as a springboard for continued conversation on when and where to use immersive interfaces. A portable immersive display made from off-the-shelf hardware will be used to demonstrate some examples of immersive visualizations.
